How-to guide 13 · Award dinners & fundraising events
Creating awards and fundraising events people remember.
The moment
There are events where you get another chance next week
A gala dinner isn’t one of them.
The guests arrive at a particular time. The speeches happen once. The award winner’s name is called once. The artist walks onto the stage once. And, for a fundraising event, there may be one evening to inspire a room full of people to give generously.
Everything has to come together in that moment. Here’s how we make sure that experience is exceptional.
Step 01
Create the atmosphere before anything happens on stage
People begin forming an impression of an event long before the host says a word.
The lighting as they enter. The way the room looks. The music. The stage. The screens. The anticipation.
Great production creates atmosphere without overwhelming the reason everyone is there.
For an awards dinner, that might mean building excitement and giving winners their moment in the spotlight.
For a fundraising event, it might mean creating an emotional journey that helps people connect with a cause before the fundraising begins.
Step 02
Make the difficult look simple
The glamour of a gala dinner can disguise just how much is happening behind the scenes.
Speeches, awards, video content, live entertainment, lighting cues, music, artist requirements and perhaps an afterparty all need to work as one continuous experience.
And the timetable is often unforgiving.
Live example
At The King’s Trust Gala at The Chancery, our team delivered audio, lighting, video, staging, scenic and artist technical requirements across the main event and afterparty.
The build took place within extremely restricted timeframes, including working overnight alongside another live event. The evening included live performances, speeches, a headline performance from Robbie Williams and an afterparty DJ set.
For the guests, none of that complexity needed to matter.
What mattered was an extraordinary evening, one that ultimately raised £2.5 million.

Step 03
The best production teams stay behind the scenes
When everything is working perfectly, guests shouldn’t be thinking about the production.
They should be watching the stage. Celebrating a winner. Enjoying the performance. Connecting with the story. Giving to the cause.
Our job is to make those moments possible.
That takes creativity and technical expertise, but it also takes meticulous planning, collaboration and a team that stays calm when the pressure rises.
Because you only get one chance to deliver the night.
We believe it’s worth doing properly.
